About Us
"It's only biochemistry but we like it."
The McMaster Biochemistry Society is a group of students in the department who want to make you feel at home. We represent the program and we would like to get you involved too. We give students the opportunity of doing more than just sitting in their rooms and studying. From Career Night to an unforgettable Formal, we organize both academic and leisurely events throughout the school year to allow students to spend time with each other outside of the lecture hall. You're sitting in class...look around you. You're going to be with the same people for the next three years, so you might as well get to know them and have some fun. We will come to your class on the first day and introduce ourselves. In addition, your reps will make announcements every now and then throughout the year regarding upcoming events, sports, and more.
Second year students who are new to the program have the opportunity to become members of the Society by running for the positions of Second Year Rep. At some point in the first few weeks, we will come to your class and contest an election. You must give a quick speech in front of the class to tell everyone why you deserve to be a Rep. Following that, we will ask students to vote for two candidates, and they will be the Reps for the year. Reps must attend Society meetings, give us your input, help us plan the events, and inform students about the events. We will give you more information very soon.
Do you love to play sports? Well, you don't have to be as skilled as our Marauder athletes. You can play any sports recreationally for our Biochem teams. All programs/departments have their own teams for various sports, and they play against other teams from other departments. Anyone and everyone is welcome to play. All our sports follow a co-rec format, so both guys and girls can play for the same team in the same game. If we don't have a team for a sport you're dying to play, then you can find other students in the program to play and form your own team. Represent our department! Click here for more information.

If you need any information or guidance about what to expect in upper years, what courses to take, how to get a research position, or you're simply bored, then feel free to come and talk to one of the executives. MacBiochem is on both Facebook and Twitter. We will post all our updates on those networks as well as on this website. Also, you can use the facebook group to sell textbooks, post your own updates, chat with your friends, etc.

You can post and comment on updates, chat with everyone at once, schedule group events, create shared docs, buy & sell textbooks, and more.
You can also discuss group projects, assignments, and tests if you'd like. But DO NOT directly share answers/solutions to any piece of work that is evaluated, as this goes against the academic code of McMaster University. If we find such posts we will delete them immediately. The MacBiochem Society and its execs are not responsible for violations made by students against this code.
