Meet the Profs Recap

The turnout was insane this year! We never expected so many students to show up. The profs had a great time too. We hope you were able to communicate with them and find out about their research as well as upper-year courses.

Thesis Night Recap

Thanks to everyone who came to Thesis Night, especially the 3rd-year students. We hope you were able to get all the information you were looking for and can find the thesis supervisor and project of your choice. Good luck!

Phoenix Social Recap

Thanks to everyone who came to the Phoenix Social, especially the second years. Not a bad deal, was it? $5 for all-you-can-eat pizza, wings, and drinks. Hope you could relax after a long day and catch up with friends.

Welcome BBQ Recap

Thanks to everyone who came to the Welcome BBQ. Hope you guys had fun even though it was freezing outside. I hope nobody got sick. Hopefully everyone got their packages as well as T-shirts of their choice. We had the chance to catch up with old friends and get to know others, especially second years. We look forward to seeing you at all the events this year.

Overview of Planned Events

Throughout the year we will organize exciting events for both social and academic purposes. We will inform you well in advance and give you all the details. Some of our unforgettable events include:

- A BBQ to kick-start the year: Second year students can meet each other for the first time and find out who else is in the program. This is a nice event for upper year students too as we can catch up after a long summer break. In addition, some professors will also be around whom you can talk to and discover what lies ahead in your Biochem courses.
- A Social: This event is mostly for second year students. You have the chance to socialize in a restaurant atmosphere after a few weeks together in the classroom. The Social is usually held on campus in the Phoenix Bar & Grill restaurant. The menu includes pizza, wings, drinks, and other finger-foods. You can eat and chat while watching a Leafs or Raptors game.
- "Meet the Profs" Night: This is another great event for second year students. You can meet professors personally that teach you now as well as profs that will teach you in upper years. It's a good chance to find out about their research as well as knowing what to expect in the future.
- Thesis Night: If you're interested in doing a thesis in your fourth year whether you're in the Core program or in one of the specializations, then this is a great event to get all the information you're looking for.
- Movie Night: Around the half-way point of the school year this event is a good stress-reliever. It will take place on campus in a large lecture hall.
- Career Night: No matter what year you are in, it never hurts to have a plan for the future. On Career Night we will invite people who did their undergrad studies in biochemistry just like you, and they will tell you where they are now and what work they do. They include grad students, PhD students, clinical biochemists, people who work for pharmaceutical companies, and more. We will ask students about other career choices as well before we organize this event.
- Formal: Nearing the end of the school year we have our annual Formal. Our last two were a blast! This event speaks for itself.
- And more...

On this webpage as well as the homepage, we will post details about each of these events well in advance, and following the events we will post summaries about how they were including photos.

Stay tuned...
